Long waits for lunch in restaurants.
We had a very bad experience at Meritage Bistro. The owner and manager were extremely rude to one of our group who ordered crab cakes that turned out to be too spicy to eat. Worst treatment I have ever seen in a restaurant. Will never go there again!

Too crowded in July.
Too crowded in July. We had a fantastic dinner at Lakeside Restaurant, an excellent lunch at Mountain Fresh Grocery and a great breakfast at the BlackBear Breakfast & Lunch which is new in town. Their food and service is superb. Next visit we will come early in the Spring or in the Fall when it isn't quite as crowded, but being crowded is a good problem for Highlands to have. :)

Highlands is a very unique place; a mountainous rain forest. Beautiful lush trees, flowers, and foliage. The water falls are breathtaking as is the drive up to Highlands. The town has a feel of privilege and most things are quite expensive. Our meal experiences were very good but get reservations IF you can. Food is pricey. Make sure and drive around and see the spectacular homes in the area. Please note that Highlands has a rain shower every day. Carry an umbrella everywhere.

Over the fourth of July weekend, so it was very crowded. We had to wait everywhere to get a meal. The visitor center was closed when it was supposed to be open, so we had trouble getting tourist information. The Smokehouse is great, but we also had a long wait for our food. The shops are high end. The historic village was interesting, and the flowers are gorgeous everywhere you look.

It was good except that the Old Edward Hotel would not let us have Dinner, only at Lunch which is not fair since we stayed at 200 Main street which is still a part of Old Edward.
I am a journalist and I don't think that the Corporate people would like to see bad information in a magazine!!
Everything was exceptional at the Park on Main- service, location, cleanliness - my husband kept saying over and over how nice it was being there! The parking garage was an added perk as well! We will definitely be back!! We hardly ever had to move our car unless we were headed out of downtown Highlands! Our waiter one night was also working at our hotel, and we really enjoyed talking with him!
No continental or breakfast & supposed to have at least coffee in lobby but front desk was completely closed with lites out when went to at 8am. Entire hotel looks to be in transition with grounds unkept, little or no staff, rooms missing items(coffee maker missing in ours) & a shame since great location & had stayed there before.
The location is great. The cottage is decorated very nicely and looks very cute inside. The patio of the cottage was great, and we enjoyed nature while sitting out on it, and we enjoyed cooking out using the grill. We were not able to get the gas fire pit started, but we used the regular fire pit in the yard area.
We loved the town of Highlands. The room we had was okay.. a little old and was infested with fruit flys. The guy who checked us in came and sprayed some sort of stuff down our drains to help but our room was kinda gross due to the fly’s. We loved location, it was walking distance to everything.
I really liked the location of the Wells hotel, you could walk to downtown Highlands easily. The space was adorable, the sheets super comfortable and the shower nice pressure. It was also nice to be able to use the keypad and no key cards to get into the room.
